Who are rangers?

Rangers work at the coalface of conservation in Africa’s protected areas. They manage defined territory and ensure the biological integrity of our remaining wild places.

What do rangers do?

Rangers protect and conserve wildlife, habitats, and ecosystems. They counter poaching, monitor wildlife, manage infrastructure, control invasive species, oversee burning programs, provide environmental education, and maintain community relations.

Why do animals need protection?

Without the protection of rangers, wildlife is threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation, illegal fishing, erosion, deforestation, poaching, and the illegal wildlife trade.

What Challenges Do Rangers Face?

Rangers face many dangerous challenges in the field, but the Covid-19 pandemic presents a new challenge. Tourism revenue is at a standstill. Without funds, vital conservation work cannot continue.

Challenge Your Friends

Wildlife Rangers are responsible for a wide variety of tasks in addition to needing a depth of field knowledge. Challenge your friends, and see if you have what it takes to be a Wildlife Ranger!
