The Impact of the Wildlife Ranger Challenge
- Total funds raised since 2020: The total raised by the Wildlife Ranger Challenge since its inception in 2020 now exceeds $25million.
- Ranger salaries provided: The Wildlife Ranger Challenge supports the employment and needs of approximately 11,500 rangers across more than 70 organisations, in 24 countries. The livelihoods of over 500,000 people in and around protected areas positively benefit from WRC funding.
- Landscapes protected: The cumulative area protected by WRC rangers is over 58 million hectares.
- Wellbeing created: The rangers speak of the camaraderie and bonds that the event creates each year.
- Improved performance: The rangers’ physical fitness has improved, as evidenced by the results of the training challenges and on Race Day. Fitter rangers are more resilient and better able to work in demanding situations.
- Growing global movement: In 2025, 150 four-person teams from 62 different ranger organisations took part and $3.35m in vital funding was raised to underpin rangers’ work. The WRC has also won the support of high-profile personalities, including Bear Grylls and Alexander Dreymon.
- Ripple effect: The national hub events attract supporters from school children to visiting tourists and local businesses who congregate to support the rangers, underscoring the positive and unifying ripple effect of the WRC. In 2025, the ‘officially’ entered 4-man teams were also joined by colleagues, so it is estimated that in total, over 2,000 rangers across the continent took part.
